It was all over. We felt the earth shake through our feet, up the broken skin on our shins and all the way to our heart where the tremors skipped a beat. Several buildings felt a similar heartache so painful their foundations gave out and together with steel and pieces of glass fell to the concrete of this main street.
It wasnt supposed to be like this i thought. When the branch colony of the 72nd space brigade returned to our humble terraformed asteroid we had hoped for riches, strength in numbers and a future seat in the citadel. But somehow these space-pirates tricked us and us welcoming them was our last mistake.
several orbital discs crashed down like tungsten frisbee's thrown by some enlightened AGI. I duck under a broken piece of highway and roll underneath to get to a lower deck. Vents blow hot air and manual interfaces cry for assistance. the citadel has unleashed its extermination EV's and the sound of the guns ripping through phsical reality vibrates through rock and steel as I take a ladder down to the core.
There have been some who escaped, smart enough to see through the brigades ruse. They will not be spared but if i can hold this first wave long enough, they will have a chance. maybe not. I fly down through broken gravity-vators and crunkled up hallwasys, maybe they will. the last bunker door stands before me, intact. the interface recognizes me and lets me through. the view is magical down here with 100 of interfaces connecting to all camera's and echolocation
